Teleplace Customers Stanford University, VetAdvisor, U.S. Air Force, Win Awards for Innovative Collaboration Technologies

U.S. Distance Learning Association, Federal Virtual Worlds Challenge, Air Force Education and Training Recognize Teleplace Virtual Workspaces

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – May 11, 2010 – Teleplace™ Inc., a leading provider of trusted collaboration solutions, today announced that three of its customers have recently received awards for their innovative use of the company's virtual workspaces for distance learning, virtual care coaching and online training programs.

“We congratulate our customers on winning these three prestigious awards for the innovative virtual workspaces they've created with Teleplace,” said Greg Nuyens, CEO of Teleplace. “The use of Teleplace for online learning and training, remote collaboration and distributed project management has accelerated dramatically, and organizations are demonstrating huge mission effectiveness and productivity benefits from their deployments.”

Enhancing Learning for Global Teams

The AEC Global Teamwork course at Stanford University includes architecture, engineering and construction students from many U.S. and international universities who work together on teams to design new buildings. With the help of online collaboration technologies from Teleplace, students are improving the performance of their cross-university and cross-disciplinary teams.

“With Teleplace, AEC Global Teamwork students can engage in rich multimedia and multimodal interactions that enable them to produce higher quality, environmentally sustainable products faster and more economically.” said Dr. Renate Fruchter, founding director of the PBL Lab, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University. “The collaboration, thus far, demonstrates how much more efficiently, effectively and seamlessly global teams can work together by leveraging secure virtual workspaces from Teleplace.”

Improving Quality of Care for Veterans

The VetAdvisor program is an outreach service, sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs, that is designed to support Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans as they reintegrate into civilian life. Teleplace provides the technology platform for Three Wire Systems' VetAdvisor Virtual Room offering. VetAdvisor Virtual Room is an online 3D workspace that provides a secure meeting place for real-time interactions between veterans and Care Coaches (licensed behavioral health professionals).

“With Teleplace we were able to easily deploy the virtual meeting place and other advanced collaboration technologies necessary to meet the needs of the VetAdvisor Virtual Room program,” said Dan Frank, managing partner of Three Wire Systems. “Teleplace enables veterans and Care Coaches to interact in a richer and more personalized way than they can with a phone call, which helps improve the overall quality of behavioral health care for veterans, especially those in remote locations.”

Innovative Approaches to Training

In 2009, the Air Force conducted its first virtual instructor-lead training. The training was held in Teleplace secure workspaces by the 81st Training Wing as part of its work with the Air Force Education Training and Command (AETC) MyBase program.

The 2009 Learning Innovation Awards were presented in January to “AETC teams who developed new initiatives and successes for both education and training,” including the 81st Training Wing. Branch Chief of AETC Plans and Requirements Training Technology Requirements, Travis Osborne, said the overall winners of the 2009 awards “were the ones who came up with the best innovation or practice that furthered students' learning.”
